Palm – Red

A reddish-beige base color, accented by striking, darker stripes reminiscent of a hedgehog’s quills; medium to fine texture, which, however, is by no means uniform or consistent due to the contrast between the dense, darker fibers and the soft, lighter cellulose structure; the grain is very straight, without growth rings, knots, or other imperfections

The species’ spread beyond Southeast Asia and India was likely driven largely by humans: Polynesian seafarers brought coconuts with them when they settled the Pacific islands. Austronesian settlers introduced the coconut palm to Madagascar, while Arab and Persian sailors brought it to the East African coast. European sailors eventually introduced it to the Caribbean and the Pacific coast of Central America.
